The Portland Bazaar

Flutter and our sister store, Eden are participating this weekend in The Portland Bazaar!  The event takes place on Saturday and Sunday at The Sandbox Studio from 9 am – 6 pm.  There will be over 50 local vendors, food, craft classes, liquor tastings, book signings and plenty of shopping.  We’re bringing down a lot of inventory from both shops as well as highlighting some local designers in our booth.  Here’s a taste:

Reconstructed vintage dresses from Ark Clothing.
Chocolate truffles, wishbones, mustaches and lumps of coal from Neopolitan Chocolates.
Terrariums and wreaths from our Mississippi neighbor Emerald Petals.
Brehan Todd Jewelry (the designer herself will help man our booth!)
Jesseca Anne Jewelry (the designer will also be at the booth with us both days!)
Pure Jewelry.
 Seaworthy Jewelry.
Handmade leather wallets and pillows from Lees Lamar.
Fur stoles with bright silk linings and bow-ties from Lees Lamar.
Pillows handmade from vintage Turkish suzanis.

…plus a few surprises we’re keeping up our sleeve.  Stop by

A Fabulous Event and Fabulous Gifting.

Good afternoon! First things first, I would like to let everyone know that both Flutter and Eden will be at The Portland Bazaar, an event I am extremely excited about. It will be held this Saturday and Sunday at Sandbox Studio and will feature DIY workshops, great local food carts, delicious spirits, and a huge selection of some of the best local and national shops/designers. It’s going to be fabulous, I know it. See you there?

And now, a Flutter gift guide. These are my picks from our online shop (which are also available in the store.) Next week I’ll share my gift picks available only in the brick & mortar shop, for all our lovely Portland locals.

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas…

…at Flutter! When I walked into work on Sunday morning, I was truly astounded by just how great the store looked all ready for the holidays. Everything is all sparkly, with bowls of ornaments, mossy coverings, shimmery garlands, and sweet smells all around. I must say, it put me in an instant good mood. I wanted to pour a cup of nog and sing along to Bing Crosby’s ‘White Christmas’.

Of course, I snapped photos a’plenty. This weekend, I plan to bring in one of my old cameras and some black & white film and go picture crazy. But for now, some phone photographs of tree trimmings and ornaments in the shop that make my heart melt and holiday spirit rise…

Happy Holidays, darlings!

Something Special for Everyone’s Someone Special at Flutter

Hello Friends! I hope your having a lovely holiday so far, as we have been at Flutter. I am always a little anxious when it comes to finding my boyfriend a perfect gift. I need something that will be unique enough to be personal, but still romantic enough that he’ll know it’s from me and not one of his Aunties. This year, I’ll rely on Flutter to find that perfect romantic something to put under the tree.
I’ve also included a few of the perfect items that any girl would be impressed to have you select, in the shop as well as in the online store. A wise person once told me, you can never go wrong with jewelry or fragrance. This lovely one of a kind vintage glass bead and chain necklace designed by Seaworthy holds the key to her heart and all the answers to the universe (just kidding about the universe part, but that would be awesome). I’m seeing a lot of Robbin’s Egg Blue lately and I’m loving it, it puts me in the mood to nest. Combined with this delicate silver chain, it’s perfectly original.

Another good rule, to follow when it comes to gift giving, everyone loves lockets. This amazing little heirloom style locket necklace by Paper Treasure is classic with a modern twist, featuring detailed vintage trinkets and chain. The locket opens so that you can place a photo close to your heart.

We are thrilled to have curated our best fragrance collection yet! I am always in search of the perfect hand creme and it seems my search is finally over. We have added some of the new popular, Tokyo Milk products to the line. I can’t get enough of this romantic new, Dead Sexy Hand Cream. The bottle is so pretty it can be left out with your perfumes. The exclusive combination of hints of deep vanilla, exotic wood, white orchid and ebony could make any girl swoon!

We’ve come to love and even crave the magnificent smell of Voluspa candles, in the home and at Flutter. The fragrance is to die for and they last an amazing amount of time, especially if you keep the wick trimmed. We have added plenty of amazing scents this season for anyone’s mood and style. The next natural step is to want to include the same unique fragrance and quality with an old classic, a nice big bar of soap, all wrapped up in pretty Victorian Gothic purple and gold paper.

One idea I thought of is to spruce up my gentlemen friend’s office for the new year for a surprise. Maybe you, or your sweetheart’s office needs and upgrade for the new year too? I covet this wise old owl pillow, the colors and design are so classic and subtle. You can never have too many pillows, I say, and we have trunks full in many different, amazing styles and fabrications. Nothing says hugs like a pillow to cuddle with.

Perhaps a new rug to go with your pillow? Lapis blue with a pretty Victorian floral pattern. Oh my.

The final step in creating the perfect man cave, cigars, of course. These ones are chocolate, so they are better for your health and more fun than the real thing.

Chase down a holiday drink in style and channel your inner “Mad Man” with these beautiful
Gibson Girl High Ball Glasses. Who could ask for anything more?….

HAPPY NEW YEAR 2010!

Snow! What a beautiful way to start out the year. I hope it sticks, I hope it lasts. I just looked up the weather for Portland, and it said it was cloudy and 46 degrees, maybe going to rain for a few days.. yeah, the wooly snowflakes tumbling out of the sky are telling me a different story. It’s funny how the weather people are wrong when they predict snow, and wrong when they don’t. I don’t mean to complain, because I really like the surprise of it. I love it love it love it. Happy New Year!! I hope next year is your best year yet!

Happy Holidays!

Oh, the holidays! Weather. We have had SNOW. Real snow. There is nothing like snow to take you back to childhood. All of a sudden, celebrating and decorating and present giving is fun again. The cold brisk air puts a spring in your step. And then there are the old holiday shows on TV. Oh, childhood comes rushing back and I am now 8 years old again. The Grinch! All of those old stop animation shows with the Heat Miser! Burger Meister Meister Burger! The Abominable Snowman! Rudolph! Oh….and my favorite cartoon of all time A Charlie Brown Christmas. The music is in my permanent collection of Christmas music, well it’s actually the only one. All of the Peanuts dancing to Vince Guaraldi’s music is just the most fun ever. And then, Christmas Time is Here is my all time favorite X-Mas song ever. Here’s the video, just for you dear readers. A little gift of simpler childish days, enjoy.

And don’t forget there are still 6 days to shop at Flutter!

XO,
Susan
